Banners + Brochure tweaking
Banners.
Just some simple guts texture banners.
Utilising the sliding doors - a man's torso opening into a guts image, as if you are going inside his stomach. Fairly straightforward.
Some augmentations to the brochure.

4th item
My fourth item has to fulfil these functions:
- Be consistent with the visual style
- feature some riff on the anatomical theme I have been going with
- be gender neutral and for anyone to use/wear
My idea at the moment is a pen that looks like a scalpel, because it relates to my "guts" dissecting theme, and it could maybe come in a cute case to extend my theme a bit more than just a scalpel. Fountain pens have a sort of "blade" I could make to look like a scalpel blade.
Scalpels
Fountain pens
These fountain pens look very scalpel like because of the metal sheen and silver colour.

Basically my final idea, fourth piece.
Final-ISH poster
The only thing wrong with this potentially is just the diagonal text, because I haven't used it anywhere else. But otherwise I love it.
The last concept I explored.
Final ish poster. Interweaving of text and guts looks very beautiful.
Could potentially use my hand-holding-guts photo for the cover of my brochure rather than the guts & symbol I have currently...

Progression
Added columns of introduction to each person. Tried out some textural designs. Again the layout is a wee bit samey? Could try altering where each person is on the page?
Another poster idea:
A lot more minimal, the colour palette again.

Colour Scheme + Banner
I decided to go along the colour route, to synchronise the pieces I have designed already. The orange and blue is striking and beautiful, and the contrast between these bright colours and the grotesque photos of guts and anatomy I really like too.
Some inspiration. Biology looking textures and compositions.
Banner
An obvious banner idea for me, was to utilise the 2 sets of automatic sliding doors on level C of Te Ara Hihiko. The idea is fairly self explanatory.
Lee's critique suggested I continue playing with composition, scale, making mandatory type even smaller and illustrations and graphics even bigger.

So the first door opens, slicing the torso lengthways to reveal the guts behind it. Made both male and female versions. I purposely chose a normal, hairy and untoned male torso, to enhance the squeamishness of the banner, and because most guys look like this and it makes it more authentic (rather than a really toned gym torso).

Banner Inspiration
Some techniques I might hope to use for my banner piece include:
- banners that make use of the surroundings and architecture
- some degree of interactivity
- The compelling disgust and intrigue that seeing intestines brings people
- Texture and layers
Interactive advertisement examples.
I LOOOOOVE this... The purpose of this ad is to encourage people to take a break in nature for a moment, and enjoy plants and their calming effect. It might not be realistic for mass production, but the plants coming out from the poster instantly makes the audience want to engage and interact.
Nice typographic layering. A cool layered visual effect makes the concept richer.
Bubble-wrap over a typewriter to emulate the sound it might make, when you pop the bubbles. Also very neat, really good again just by virtue of its interactivity - people naturally are attracted to things they can participate in, and basically become part of the design.
A concept where the viewer removes something obscuring the poster. Curiosity would incite most people to remove the covering and see what is underneath. I would be interested in doing something similar with my banner (and poster too probably) because my concept is about pulling something apart and seeing what it is made of, hence the suitability of audience interaction with my theme.

Brochure Development
I have distinctions between my speakers now, and the topics they would be covering about the anatomy of design include: tangibles of design, the history of design techniques, authenticity in design (originality), the future and changing definition of design, and the politics of design.
Kate Moross - future of design
Paula Scher - tangibles of design
Tony Seddon - history of design
Harry A'Court - authenticity (your own voice) in design
Dan Lockton - politics of design
"all these things are present in a piece of design when you look closely and start dissecting it with a critical and informed eye, bla bla, by looking closely at our work we can understand and do better????" something of that nature
playing around with layouts.

- I like the visual style
- Consistency includes that dotted red line, and the suggestion of blood from the red smears
- Inconsistencies include the messiness compared to clean poster. Also no "guts" images here.
- Either I would put some "splats" on the poster so it is not so clean, or, make the people graphics more clean to match the poster, for consistency.
Sample layouts - I added some guts typography into the names of the speakers, it adds some degree of what we saw in the poster?
Some other ideas to distinguish each speaker's illustration according to their topic:
- A shape made of the dotted lines to represent each subject? I.e. An arrow shape for the future maybe?
- Represent each speaker's topic as a vital organ or some part of the digestive system or body - for example, the tangibles could be the skeleton, the history could be the liver or something idk, authenticity could be heart, the future could be the eyes? politics could be lungs
- Present an example of their work next to them perhaps
